Copper Beech

Posted on Oct 1st, 2007 by Pete : Giver Pete
Like television static in glowing royal red and dark marroon. Moving in the wind, not random; patterns emerge. Waves of lights twinkling in the bright sunshine. A branch drifts closer, it's leaves lighting up in the full glare, as if a fire-eater standing at the trunk had shot a huge brand of flame straight up and as quickly it's gone, coalesced into the formless jelly of the pulsating tree. The Copper Beech in my garden.

If only the Internet were like that tree. No leaf is totaly isolated from the light, each one gets it's chance to shine and be a producer, contributing to the life of the whole. We are all connected on some level, every action we take affects the lives of those around us and sometimes those who live many thousands of miles away. We are all leaves on the tree of humanity.

Lets make it our goal to bring the light of the net to every one on the tree. Let's see how this affects the health of our world.

AiRed has always been more than a business venture to me, it's an adventure.
From the very beginning I had plans to revolutionise the way people think about their Internet connection. It's no longer a wire cable that plugs into the wall, it even doesn't require you to sit down at a PC! Your connection to the Internet is your connection to the people of Earth and it should be available to you wherever you want to go, when-ever you want to communicate with another soul.
The technology is available now to load a web page at the summit of K2 or make a Skype call from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean. These technologies are diverse and some are not very user friendly, this is where I come in.
My goal is that some-day you will be able to flip open your laptop or turn on your media player or mobile phone and already have a high quality, high speed connection, without wires, without configuration. And this connection will be available anywhere on the surface of our planet or anywhere humans inhabit space ;)
Ok that's thinking big, but I honestly believe it's a goal that is achievable within my lifetime. Right now I'm focusing my attention on wireless connectivity like WiFi and WiMax, technologies that deliver a high speed data connection with ranges between 20m and 16km from a base station. In theory, if we have enough of these base stations blanketing a target area, we can enjoy uninterrupted broad-band service form any point within that area.
